About SGMS

SGMS is an international chess tournament hosting brand founded by SG&GS, a company dedicated to providing a one-stop service platform for overseas residents relocating to Singapore, in collaboration with experienced FIDE-certified arbiters. We strongly believe that regularly participating in FIDE standard tournaments is key to improving one’s chess skills. Our aim is to hold standard chess matches every month in a comfortable and competitive environment, striving to simplify the competition process and reduce travel fatigue. We expect this platform to provide you with the best practical opportunities, helping you fully tap into your potential and become a chess master.

Why is it so important to hold the International Chess Federation Standard Rating Tournament every month?

  • Part of the registration fees for this competition will be donated to the Singapore diabetes Charity Fund, and all players with disabilities will register at half price.
  • Assist chess players with a score of 2100 or below to achieve a traditional score of 90+30 in Singapore every month without having to travel abroad. This will provide great motivation for chess players to practice.
  • We believe that minimizing rental costs and using funds for high bonuses and professional referee teams will attract more outstanding players, while setting a limit on the number of low-level players will help average-level players progress faster.
  • Compared to Europe, the standard events held in Asia are not fixed, so we hope to fill this gap.

Why Choose SGMS Tournaments?

1. Monthly 7-Round 90+30 Tournaments

Through monthly 7-round SGMS tournaments with a 90+30 time control, we aim to provide every Asian player—especially Singaporean players—with convenient opportunities to compete. This helps players, from FM and IM to even aspiring GMs, achieve their dreams more easily.

To reach the Grandmaster level, regular participation in 90+30 tournaments and systematic training are essential. While many European countries offer such events, SGMS is among the first organizations in Asia to host monthly 90+30 tournaments.

2. Fair and Transparent Registration System

SGMS follows a fairness-first principle by categorizing players in 200-point rating brackets to determine registration fees.
•Higher-rated players pay lower fees because their improvement margin is smaller, but they can compete for higher prizes.
•Lower-rated players pay higher fees since they have more room for improvement and learning opportunities.

This system is reasonable and balanced. Unrated players pay the highest fees. We also limit participant numbers to ensure a better playing experience.

Our tournament design mainly supports players rated 1600–1850 and above, while also helping unrated players obtain an initial rating and giving stronger players opportunities to sharpen their skills and earn higher prizes.

3. Giving Back to Society

SGMS regularly gives back to the community. For example:
•Offering discounted registration fees for players with disabilities
•Donating part of prize money to charitable organizations

Our tournaments are not just about improving chess skills. After each event, we organize complimentary refreshments where players and families can socialize and exchange ideas.

We also plan to hold an annual family gathering, making SGMS feel more like a big chess family.

4. Equal Treatment for International Players

SGMS treats overseas and local players equally and actively encourages international players to participate in our Singapore tournaments.

We understand that international players face high travel and accommodation costs. By providing hotel subsidies, we hope to ease their financial burden and help them feel more comfortable competing here.

5. Promoting Singapore to the World

Singapore is one of Asia’s most developed countries. Through our tournaments, we aim to showcase Singapore’s strengths and help more people learn about the country.

One of our sponsors, SG&GS, provides one-stop relocation services for foreigners, including visa applications, school enrollment, housing, and insurance.

6. Professional Tournament Standards

We are committed to providing hotel accommodation for overseas players and offering live broadcast coverage for tournaments.

Our events use internationally certified arbiters (IA) and follow FIDE standards, making competitions such as the SGMS 90+30 Rating Tournament more professional.

Unlike many other tournaments—where players often face opponents with very different ratings—SGMS focuses on pairing players of similar strength. For international players, the biggest costs are not registration fees, but airfare, accommodation, and time.

In SGMS tournaments, players rated above 1600 can quickly find opponents at a similar level.

Our mission:
“We carefully design every game you play.”
